Have a snack! An exercise snack!

A lot of people tend to stop exercising over the holidays. We’re busy, right? But I want to show you how you can continue to exercise and take care of your body, even during the super busy holidays. Are you ready? By snacking! Probably not what you expected.
But it’s not the typical snack. I’m talking about exercise snacks! An exercise snack is an exercise that is only done for 1 minute. 60 seconds! That’s it! That’s less time than it takes to go to the fridge and get something to eat. So it’s short.
It needs to be something that really gets your heart rate up. When you’re done with your minute, it should be difficult for you to speak in complete sentences. There are so many options. You can sprint for 60 seconds. You can run up and down stairs for 60 seconds. Burpees. Body weight squats. Jumping jacks. Anything to really get your heart going.
When your heart rate gets up, your body has to recover from that. It’s during this recovery that good things happen in your body. Your cardio health is improved, you gain muscular strength, and you even have cognitive enhancement.
A recent study showed that people who did an exercise snack 3 times a day over time had a 50% reduction in cardiac mortality. They had a 40% reduction in cancer mortality and all cause mortality.
Another study showed that when you do an exercise snack either 30 minutes before or after a meal, glucose regulation was greatly improved.
Consistency is key. Doing just three exercise snacks a day greatly improves health. It breaks up long periods of being sedentary. It helps cardiac and mental health. It improves muscle strength. It only takes 3 minutes a day. We all have that. You don’t need a gym or any special equipment. You can do it by your desk or in the living room with your kids.
